Actor Bobby Deol, who has been experiencing a massive career resurgence in recent years, is once again making headlines for his upcoming project titled Bandar. In a recent interaction during the film’s promotional build-up, the actor opened up about the personal and professional challenges he faced while portraying his character in the Anurag Kashyap directorial.

Deol admitted that the role pushed him significantly beyond his established comfort zone, requiring him to shed his natural shyness and long-standing inhibitions.

The film, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 5, 2026, is described as a gritty crime thriller inspired by real-life events. Produced by Nikhil Dwivedi in collaboration with Zee Studios, Bandar features a screenplay by the acclaimed Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee. The narrative follows the story of Samar, played by Deol, an aging television star whose popularity is on the decline. His life takes a dark turn when he is accused of a serious crime and finds himself trapped in a legal system that seems rigged against him.

Reflecting on his journey with the character, Deol shared that every actor eventually battles the fear of being typecast. He explained that after years in the industry, an image becomes fixed in the minds of the audience, making it incredibly difficult for a performer to experiment with something radically different.

For Bandar, he noted that he had to approach the scenes with a sense of total abandon. He remarked that he chose to perform “shamelessly,” putting aside his personal reservations to meet the raw and intense demands of Kashyap’s vision.

The film boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Sanya Malhotra, Saba Azad, and Raj B. Shetty, among others. Given the creative team behind the project—including Sharma, who is known for his hard-hitting work on Paatal Lok and Udta Punjab—Bandar is expected to be a raw and politically charged exploration of power and systemic failure.

Industry experts are closely watching this release, as it marks a departure from the high-octane villainous roles Deol has played recently. By taking on the role of a vulnerable, fading star caught in a web of corruption, Deol is looking to prove his versatility once again.

With its world premiere having already taken place at the Toronto International Film Festival late last year, the early buzz suggests that Deol’s “unfiltered” performance might be one of the most talked-about highlights of the year.
