The residential enclave of Juhu has been shaken by a major breach of trust involving the family of Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon. The Mumbai Police have officially arrested a forty-seven-year-old woman for allegedly orchestrating a massive theft of gold and diamond heirloom jewellery worth approximately twenty-five lakh rupees from the residence of the actor’s brother, film producer Rajiv Ravi Tandon. The accused individual, identified by the local authorities as Khar resident Rashi Chhabria, had spent multiple years working closely with the Bollywood family as a trusted caretaker for the actress’s elderly eighty-six-year-old mother, Veena Tandon, before allegedly exploiting her unrestricted household privileges to execute the high-value robbery.
According to the official first information report registered at the Juhu police station, the suspect was originally introduced to the film family back in the year twenty-twenty through a common mutual acquaintance. Following the unfortunate passing of Rajiv and Raveena’s father, celebrated filmmaker Ravi Tandon, during the pandemic, Rashi Chhabria allegedly managed to develop an incredibly close personal bond with the grieving family members by frequently visiting the house to bring homemade meals and assist in caring for the aging matriarch. Because she had won their complete emotional confidence, she was granted unmonitored access to the highly private second floor of the Juhu bungalow, an area strictly reserved for immediate family members and the caretaker alone.
The extensive timeline of the crime reveals that the entire security vulnerability emerged during a major home renovation project that took place at the Juhu bungalow between August and October. For absolute safekeeping during the chaotic construction work, Rajiv Tandon had carefully shifted his mother’s priceless heirloom wedding jewellery into a secure wardrobe safe located inside a first-floor bedroom. The devastating theft officially came to light on October second when the film producer went to open the vault to retrieve the traditional ornaments for his mother ahead of the major Dussehra festival celebrations, only to discover that the locker had been forcefully tampered with and broken open. Missing from the secure safe were roughly three hundred and fifty grams of valuable ornaments, including gold bangles, precious necklaces, diamond rings, earrings, a custom diamond-studded mangalsutra, and two luxury wristwatches.
When confronted privately by Rajiv Tandon immediately after the shocking discovery, the caretaker initially denied any involvement in the incident but eventually broke down and confessed to the crime upon intense questioning. While she immediately returned the two stolen luxury watches, she claimed that she had already pawned and handed over the gold and diamond jewellery to an outside associate named Jagdish, promising the family that she would retrieve and return the valuables shortly. Realizing that the caretaker had absolutely no intention of returning the precious valuables, the film producer finally approached the senior Mumbai Police authorities to lodge a formal complaint, leading to the immediate arrest of Rashi Chhabria on May twenty-first. The local court formally remanded the primary suspect to police custody until May twenty-ninth to allow investigators ample time to conduct detailed interrogations.
