The romantic drama Chand Mera Dil, starring Ananya Panday and rising actor Lakshya, is facing a tough uphill battle at the domestic box office as it enters its second week of theatrical release. Directed by Vivek Soni and backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the movie hit the silver screens on May 22 amid high expectations but unfortunately received heavily mixed reviews from both critics and audiences alike. After wrapping up its introductory week on a lukewarm note by failing to cross the twenty crore mark, the film witnessed a noticeable drop in momentum on its eighth day. According to early estimates provided by industry trade tracking websites, Chand Mera Dil managed to bring in a meager one point zero four crore rupees net in India on its second Friday, signaling a quiet start to its second weekend and raising concerns about its long-term commercial survival.

The latest financial breakdown indicates that the film’s total domestic net earnings now stand at approximately twenty point four nine crore rupees after eight days of theater screenings. Looking back at its introductory week journey, the romantic film originally took off with a decent opening day haul of three crore rupees last Friday, followed by a promising weekend surge where it collected three point seven five crore rupees on Saturday and hit its peak with four point two five crore rupees on Sunday. However, the standard working weekday slowdown hit the project hard on Monday with a drop to two point two five crore rupees, followed by two point one zero crore rupees on Tuesday and one point nine zero crore rupees on Wednesday. While a brief holiday spike helped the collections recover slightly to two point two zero crore rupees on Thursday to conclude the first week at nineteen point four five crore rupees, the immediate Friday dip confirms that the initial theatrical curiosity is fading fast.

To put these box office numbers into a broader perspective, Ananya Panday’s previous theatrical release, the romantic entertainer Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri alongside co-star Kartik Aaryan, had managed to cross a much stronger milestone by minting thirty point fifteen crore rupees net in India within its first eight days despite facing equally lukewarm reviews. On the other hand, Lakshya’s heavy-action debut project, Kill, had brought in a much lower eleven point ninety crore rupees during the exact same timeframe, though it enjoyed highly favorable word-of-mouth reviews from film critics. While the lower production costs of Chand Mera Dil provide a bit of a safety cushion for the independent producers, trade analysts emphasize that the movie will desperately need a massive, unprecedented jump in attendance on Saturday and Sunday if it hopes to secure a respectable lifetime total before major new titles arrive next month.

Beyond the pure financial analysis, the film has also been generating a massive amount of mixed chatter on social media platforms due to a specific creative sequence. A particular scene from the movie went viral online recently, showing Ananya’s character, Chandni, performing an edgy and contemporary Bharatanatyam fusion dance number, which unfortunately subjected the actress to a wave of harsh internet trolling and mockery regarding her dance moves. Addressing the online backlash, veteran actress Charu Shankar, who plays Ananya’s on-screen mother Nivedita in the film, publicly defended her young co-star by stating that while everyone is fully entitled to an opinion on art, mean-spirited trolling is never in good taste. She explained that the sequence was always intentionally written and staged to serve as a modern introduction for Chandni, visually communicating the arrival of a bold young woman who is completely unafraid to bend traditional rules to follow her own path.
