Chand Mera Dil box office collection day 9: Lakshya, Ananya Panday film continues to struggle, crosses ₹22 crore

The romantic drama Chand Mera Dil is finding it incredibly tough to make a significant mark at the domestic ticket windows as it completes its ninth day in theatres. Directed by Vivek Soni and produced under the prestigious banner of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the movie features rising actor Lakshya alongside Bollywood actress Ananya Panday in lead roles. Despite arriving with a decent amount of industry backing, the film has faced a bumpy road ever since its release, receiving a mix of responses from movie critics and regular theatergoers alike. The emotional storyline, which tracks a young college couple in Hyderabad navigating an unplanned pregnancy, marriage, and subsequent relationship friction, has failed to trigger the kind of massive footfall expected from a mainstream romantic release. The film started on a relatively slow note and has unfortunately shown minimal momentum over its theatrical run, reflecting a clear struggle to pull audiences into cinema halls.

According to the latest box office data from industry tracker Sacnilk, Chand Mera Dil gathered a modest ₹1.60 crore on its second Saturday. While weekends typically offer a reliable spike in earnings for multiplex-centric urban movies, this particular Saturday provided almost no major growth, indicating that the romantic drama is struggling to attract casual moviegoers. This minor weekend figure comes right after a low Friday where the movie brought in just ₹1.30 crore, showing that the movie is finding few takers as it settles into its second week of release. Interestingly, the film did experience a slight temporary boost on its second Thursday, earning ₹2.20 crore thanks to a public holiday for Eid, but that momentum quickly faded. So far, the movie’s single highest earnings day remains its first Sunday, where it managed to hit its peak performance of ₹4.25 crore.

With the inclusion of the day nine figures, the domestic box office net collection for Chand Mera Dil has officially crossed the ₹22 crore mark, landing at an estimated total of ₹22.35 crore. When looking at the overall financial breakdown, this net total translates to a total domestic gross collection of approximately ₹26.39 crore. The movie has found itself cornered in a highly competitive theatrical market, facing heavy pressure from a flurry of simultaneous releases. It is actively sharing screens and fighting for audience attention against fresh Bollywood arrivals like the comedy film Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, as well as notable international Hollywood projects including the horror feature Obsession and the major franchise release Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu. This crowded environment has significantly limited the screen count and show timings available for the romantic drama, further compounding its box office woes.

Beyond the monetary statistics, Chand Mera Dil has also found itself at the center of a massive wave of social media discussion regarding a specific creative choice in the film. A particular sequence featuring Ananya Panday’s character, Chandni, performing an edgy fusion classical dance that mixes traditional Bharatanatyam with hip-hop and locking, has gone heavily viral online. The unique choreography drew a sharp divide on the internet, sparking a mix of heavy trolling and intense defense from classical dancers and cultural writers. Addressing the ongoing online chatter, veteran actress Charu Shankar, who plays Ananya’s mother in the film, publicly stepped up to defend the scene, stating that while artistic criticism is completely valid, mockery is not. She explained that the performance was intentionally designed by the creators as an edgy, contemporary introduction to highlight a young woman who isn’t afraid to break traditional boundaries.
