In the fast-paced world of Bollywood deadlines are often tight but the team behind David Dhawan’s upcoming rom-com Hai Jawani To Ishq Hona Hai has set a new benchmark. Composer Mohsin Shaikh of the popular Javed-Mohsin duo recently revealed that the film’s title track was completely reimagined recorded and finalized in a staggering 48-hour window.
The track which serves as a modern tribute to the cult classic “Ishq Chandi Hai Ishq Sona Hai” from the 1999 film Biwi No. 1 was a last-minute addition to ensure the movie’s teaser hit the right nostalgic notes for today’s audience.
According to Mohsin the request came just 10 days before the official teaser launch. Director David Dhawan was looking for a sound that bridged the gap between 90s nostalgia and the high-energy vibe of Gen Z.
“The brief was very clear: it needed to feel like a grand festival celebration” Mohsin shared. “But we didn’t have weeks to ponder. We had to move fast.”
Re-composition: Modernizing the rhythm while keeping the iconic hook line.
Studio Sessions: Lead actor Varun Dhawan reportedly spent two consecutive nights in the studio alongside the composers to provide input and ensure the energy matched his on-screen persona.
Recording: The team brought in live brass and string sections to give the song a “larger-than-life” acoustic feel moving away from purely digital loops.
Despite the quick turnaround the composers were careful to respect the original work of Anu Malik. The new version retains about 80% of the original lyrics penned by Sameer Anjaan with Mohsin Shaikh contributing fresh verses and contemporary rap sections performed by RANJ and Earl Edgar.
Notably the production team decided to use the original vocals of Shankar Mahadevan and Hema Sardesai layering them with modern house-music elements to create a “hybrid” sound that appeals to multiple generations.
Hai Jawani To Ishq Hona Hai marks the fourth collaboration between Varun Dhawan and his father David Dhawan. The film which also stars Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde is described as a “double trouble” love story featuring a classic comedy-of-errors plot involving a protagonist named Jass who finds himself in a complicated romantic tangle.
“Recreating a hit is always riskier than making a new song” Mohsin admitted. “If you miss the mark the fans of the original will let you know immediately. But David sir was super happy when he heard the final version on that third morning.”
The film is currently slated for a worldwide theatrical release on May 22 2026. With the title track already generating significant buzz on social media the makers are optimistic that this 48-hour miracle will become the summer’s biggest dance anthem. To know such
