The highly anticipated biographical drama starring Diljit Dosanjh has finally made its way to audiences after a long and grueling battle with the censorship board. The movie, which has been released directly on the digital streaming platform Zee5, is now titled Satluj. It was previously known by alternative titles such as Punjab 95 and Ghallughara during its production and certification phase. As the film directed by Honey Trehan finally starts streaming online, leading actor Diljit Dosanjh shared his emotional journey and admitted that he frequently questioned the team whether this project would ever see the light of day. He expressed his deep respect for the subject matter and mentioned how he used to constantly ask if they would ever be allowed to tell this important story to the world.

Reflecting on the historical significance of the narrative, Diljit Dosanjh stated that the voice of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra was suppressed twice. He pointed out that the activist’s voice was silenced for the first time back in the year 1995 through tragic real-world events, and it faced a similar suppression in modern times through an intense and prolonged certification struggle. The film revolves around the real-life investigation conducted by Jaswant Singh Khalra, an ordinary bank employee who discovered mass illegal cremations and severe police actions in Punjab, uncovering the dark reality of thousands of missing individuals. Diljit Dosanjh emphasized that his portrayal of this legendary figure was driven by a deep sense of responsibility to represent historical struggles with total honesty and maximum respect.

The journey to bring Satluj to the screen involved surviving a massive legal and bureaucratic process with the Central Board of Film Certification. The censor board had reportedly demanded more than one hundred and twenty structural cuts, objecting to elements like location names, references to the local police, and even the original title. Director Honey Trehan and producer Ronnie Screwvala resisted these changes, choosing to wait for years rather than compromise the integrity of the project. Diljit Dosanjh assured his fans during a recent social media interaction that the version now streaming digitally is completely uncut and matches the exact version he viewed years ago. He made it clear that he would not have stepped forward to promote the film if even a single scene had been deleted, celebrating the release as a hard-fought victory for creative truth.
