After months of industry speculation and a reported legal standoff, filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has finally broken his silence regarding the turbulent pre-production of Don 3 and the high-profile exit of lead actor Ranveer Singh.
In a candid conversation with an entertainment website, Akhtar opened up about the unpredictability of the project, which has faced numerous hurdles since its initial announcement. “A lot has happened over the last couple of years,” Akhtar admitted. “You learn to expect the unexpected. Nothing can be taken for granted until you actually have it on film.”
The friction between the filmmaker and the actor reportedly reached a boiling point following the release of Singh’s film Dhurandhar in December 2025. Sources suggest that Singh walked out of the project due to concerns over the script and the film’s timeline. In response, Akhtar’s production house, Excel Entertainment, reportedly approached the Producers Guild of India, claiming losses of nearly ₹40 crore attributed to pre-production costs and scheduling disruptions caused by the last-minute exit.
Reports indicated that the Guild urged both parties to settle the matter amicably rather than pursuing a legal battle. On the other side of the dispute, Singh’s camp allegedly pointed toward “unprofessionalism” on the part of the makers, claiming the project had been sidelined while Akhtar focused on other commitments.
Recent developments suggest that the two Bollywood heavyweights are looking to move past the controversy. Reports from late April 2026 indicate that Ranveer Singh has offered to return his ₹10 crore signing fee to Excel Entertainment. Furthermore, in an attempt to compensate for the production house’s losses, Singh has reportedly offered them a stake in his upcoming project, tentatively titled Pralay.
While the exact details of this settlement remain private, the gesture signals a significant step toward de-escalating the public feud.
Despite the chaos, Akhtar remains adamant that Don 3 is still very much alive. He described the film as one of the “incredible stories” he is determined to tell, though he stopped short of naming a new lead.
“I have worked with enough people who know what kind of person I am and what I bring to the table,” Akhtar said, addressing the challenges. “That is what is going to sail me through.”
As the dust settles on the Ranveer Singh era of the franchise, the question of who will step into the shoes previously worn by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan remains unanswered. For now, Akhtar seems focused on stabilizing the project and ensuring that the legacy of the iconic anti-hero continues, even if the road to the silver screen has been more treacherous than anticipated.
