Filmmaker Kamal Chandra, who earned acclaim for directing the thought-provoking drama Hamare Baarah starring Annu Kapoor, is all set to embark on his next directorial venture in his hometown of Agra. Having graduated from the Bhartendu Natya Academy in Lucknow, the director has consistently drawn inspiration from authentic North Indian narratives, establishing a distinct storytelling style rooted in real-life culture. Speaking about his creative vision and upcoming plans, Chandra shared that his team is preparing to go on floors this winter with a long-cherished romantic project. Expressing his strong affinity for local landscapes, the filmmaker emphasized that the Hindi heartland offers an unparalleled space for meaningful cinema, as its grounded stories resonate deeply with diverse audience segments across the country.

Reflecting on his journey across regional filming locations, Chandra noted that while his debut project Ab Dilli Door Nahin was filmed in the national capital, he later captured the charm of Uttar Pradesh through Hamare Baarah in Lucknow, alongside filming projects in Dehradun and Panna. However, bringing a camera crew to his native city of Agra holds a special significance for the director. He pointed out that while previous mainstream filmmakers have largely focused on the iconic Taj Mahal, his upcoming love story aims to explore uncharted corners and local neighborhood culture that reflect the true soul of the city. Having recently completed a location recce and final script revisions in Agra, Chandra expressed confidence that presenting an unseen side of his hometown will add immense emotional richness to the narrative.

Alongside his upcoming Agra schedule, the director is also gearing up for the release of his slice-of-life feature titled Aryabhatt Ka Zero, previously known as Boondi Raita. The film features actor Himansh Kohli in an unexpected avatar alongside Neeraj Sood, portraying a relatable journey of a local youth transforming from zero to hero. Chandra, who previously assisted veteran directors like Sudhir Mishra and Ratnaa Sinha early in his career, acknowledged the operational challenges faced by independent projects without major studio backing. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic about the evolving landscape of Indian cinema, firmly believing that strong content and high emotional quotient ultimately transcend budget constraints to win over viewers.
