A casual collaboration during a commercial shoot unexpectedly laid the foundation for one of the most anticipated Bollywood thrillers, bringing together iconic director Priyadarshan, Akshay Kumar, and Saif Ali Khan for their big-screen reunion.
Back in 2024, filmmakers Shailaja Desai Fenn and her husband Satish Fenn from Thespian Films were busy producing a brand commercial for Kalyan Jewellers. Priyadarshan was on board as the director for the advertisement.
During downtime between takes, casual conversations began flowing about cinema, storytelling, and future ideas. Priyadarshan shared his strong desire to adapt a specific story into a Hindi feature film and casually asked if they could help put the project together, to which the producer couple warmly agreed.
The project gained rapid momentum during the early casting phase, driven by personal relationships and mutual respect within the industry. Satish Fenn reached out to Saif Ali Khan, with whom he shared a long-standing friendship, and the actor was immediately intrigued by the role.
Shortly after, Priyadarshan brought Akshay Kumar into the fold, leveraging their long history of successful collaborations. Once the stellar lead cast was locked in, the ad producers offered to pitch the film to established studios in Mumbai.
However, Priyadarshan surprised them by insisting that Shailaja and Satish step up as the primary producers themselves, expressing complete trust in their team. Accepting the challenge, they partnered with Venkat of KVN Productions to co-produce the venture, officially giving birth to the thrilling project now titled Haiwaan.
The upcoming thriller offers a unique dynamic for audiences, marking a fresh chapter for everyone involved. In a major departure from his usual roles, Akshay Kumar steps into a completely negative, dark character, while Saif Ali Khan takes on the intense challenge of playing a visually impaired protagonist.
The film also features a special cameo appearance by legendary superstar Mohanlal, further elevating the project’s scale. What started as a simple conversation on an advertisement set successfully evolved into a high-octane feature film, showcasing how organic networking and trust can bring powerhouse talents together under Priyadarshan’s direction.
