Thalapathy Vijay’s highly discussed action thriller Jana Nayagan has hit its first significant speed bump at the box office as weekday realities settle in. Following a stellar four-day opening weekend that comfortably propelled the film past the coveted Rs 200 crore global landmark, the film experienced a heavy Monday correction. On its fifth day in theaters across India, the political action drama recorded an estimated net collection of Rs 10.15 crore across all dubbed versions. This figure marks a sharp 68 percent drop from Sunday’s impressive Rs 32 crore collection, signaling a typical post-weekend deceleration as working days resume for audiences nationwide.
Despite the substantial drop on its first Monday, Jana Nayagan continues to hold a solid overall stance at the domestic and international box office. The film’s total domestic net earning now stands at approximately Rs 134.90 crore, bringing its gross collection in India to Rs 157.74 crore. Overseas, the movie added another Rs 4 crore to its tally on Day 5, taking its total international gross to Rs 75.50 crore. Consequently, the worldwide gross box office collection for the Vijay starrer has mounted to an impressive Rs 233.24 crore within just five days of its theatrical release.
A closer look at the language-wise distribution reveals that the original Tamil version continues to be the primary engine driving the film’s business. On Monday, the Tamil release generated Rs 8.40 crore net from around 4,969 shows, maintaining an overall occupancy rate of roughly 32.65 percent. The Hindi dubbed version contributed Rs 1.20 crore net with a 12.48 percent occupancy, while the Telugu version added Rs 55 lakh net to the total tally. Regionally, Tamil Nadu led the domestic circuit with a single-day gross of Rs 8 crore, followed by Karnataka, Kerala, and the rest of India.
Directed by H. Vinoth and starring Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, and Priyamani alongside Vijay, the film carries enormous sentimental value as it marks the superstar’s final cinematic venture before taking a full-time plunge into politics. Although mixed critical reviews and pre-release delays caused some initial turbulence, fan enthusiasm remained high through the opening weekend. Trade analysts and industry experts are now closely monitoring the upcoming weekday numbers to see if Jana Nayagan can stabilize its footfalls and reach the domestic Rs 200 crore net milestone in the days ahead.
