The latest romantic drama Ek Din, which brought together Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi for the first time, has unfortunately failed to create an impact at the box office, leaving the makers and cast in a state of reflection. In a recent and candid interaction, Junaid Khan addressed the film’s disappointing commercial performance, admitting that while the team was incredibly hopeful about the project, it simply did not connect with the majority of the audience. The film, which was a remake of the Thai hit One Day, struggled to gain momentum despite the backing of Aamir Khan Productions and a significant promotional push. Junaid noted that while he personally loved the script and enjoyed the process of making it, he has come to terms with the fact that “hota hai kabhi kabhi” (it happens sometimes), acknowledging that in the creative world, not every project finds the acceptance it seeks.

While Junaid appears to be handling the setback with a calm and practical mindset, he revealed that his father, Aamir Khan, has taken the failure much more deeply. According to Junaid, the veteran actor-producer is still “moping” over the film’s fate because he was emotionally invested in the story. Junaid shared that even after spending decades in the industry and witnessing countless highs and lows, Aamir still gets deeply bothered when a film he genuinely likes fails to perform. He described his father as someone who takes these outcomes very personally, though he eventually manages to keep himself busy and move on to the next challenge. The young actor mentioned that Aamir’s intense attachment to the film was one of the reasons it became a grander production under his banner, even though it ultimately resulted in a box office collection of just over Rs. 5.4 crore worldwide.

Looking ahead, Junaid emphasized that this experience has taught him a valuable lesson about maintaining a steady stream of work and taking independent risks. He shared that he has become more cautious about seeking his father’s second opinion on scripts, as Aamir’s emotional involvement often leads to him wanting to produce the projects himself, which can significantly slow down the production timeline. For a newcomer like Junaid, who is still finding his footing after theatrical releases like Loveyapa and Ek Din, the priority is now on building a consistent filmography. Despite the current “moping” phase in the Khan household, Junaid remains optimistic about his future ventures, including the rumored third installment of the Ragini MMS franchise, as he continues to carve out his own identity away from his father’s shadow.
