The legal dispute surrounding the controversial upcoming film Kala Hiran The Battle for Legacy took an important turn in the Delhi High Court. The makers informed the court that the movie is currently not in a releasable state because it has not yet received certification from the Central Board of Film Certification.
During the hearing presided over by Justice Jyoti Singh, the counsel representing producer Amit Jani stated that the film has not been submitted to the censor board for clearance and even the official trailer is yet to be released.
This update comes in response to a fresh lawsuit filed by Bollywood actor Salman Khan, who is seeking a complete ban on the movie’s release, trailer, and promotional materials, claiming it violates his personality rights and attempts to unfairly link him to the past blackbuck case and illegal underworld ties.
The legal counsel representing Salman Khan raised concerns before the court, pointing out that while theatrical releases require censor clearance, streaming platforms do not strictly follow the same censor board rules.
Taking note of these arguments, the Delhi High Court recorded the producers’ statement regarding the current non-releasable status of the film and extended its scope to cover potential digital releases as well.
The court has granted the respondents two weeks to file their written replies and scheduled the next detailed hearing for September 30. The actor’s legal team emphasized that any unauthorized release or promotion of the movie could cause irreparable harm to his reputation, while the filmmakers maintain their stand regarding jurisdiction and court proceedings as the battle continues.
Adding further complexity to the ongoing battle, Salman Khan’s petition highlights how the promotional posters and teasers feature a character bearing a striking physical resemblance to him, including his signature bracelet, while depicting scenes that sensationalize sub-judice matters.
The actor’s legal team argued that such dramatized portrayals mislead the public and create a media trial around the 1998 blackbuck poaching case, where legal appeals still remain pending before higher courts. In response, the filmmakers maintain that the project is a factual narrative based on public court records and media reports rather than an authorized biopic.
As both sides prepare their detailed arguments for the next court date, fans and industry insiders closely await the judicial decision on whether this controversial production will ever see the light of day.
