Rising Bollywood actor Satendra Soni, who gained widespread public recognition for his memorable performance as Chhotu in director Kiran Rao’s critically acclaimed film Laapataa Ladies, has safely returned to Mumbai following a deeply distressing experience in Madhya Pradesh. The young artist recently shocked the entertainment industry by sharing an emotional, tearful video on his social media account detailing how a routine professional assignment turned into a terrifying personal ordeal. Soni alleged that he was aggressively threatened and physically assaulted on a public road in Maihar, Madhya Pradesh, by an independent film director and his spouse after he simply requested his rightfully earned acting fees. Following a highly tense couple of days where he felt completely isolated, the actor confirmed his safe arrival back home in Maharashtra, issuing a reassuring statement to his concerned fans and well-wishers saying that he and his fellow artists have successfully escaped the dangerous situation.

The entire controversy unfolded during the shooting schedule of an upcoming film titled Ped Palki, which is helmed by director and producer Pushpendra Singh, who is also known for making the movie Ajmer 92. Satendra Soni explained that he had traveled to Maihar after receiving an initial token signing amount of fifty thousand rupees, with a clear mutual agreement that the remaining portions of his acting fees would be paid directly to him during the ten-day production schedule. However, after completing eight full days of camera work, Soni noticed that no further payments were being cleared, and he even overheard other technical crew members complaining about their pending dues. When the actor politely approached Pushpendra Singh to discuss his remuneration, the filmmaker reportedly flew into a rage, ordered him to pack up his bags instantly, and issued a chilling ultimatum warning him to check out of his hotel room within ten minutes or face fatal consequences. The director’s wife, Pragati Chauhan, who also features as the lead actress in the project, allegedly joined in by shouting abuses at the terrified young artist.

The situation escalated into actual physical violence as Satendra Soni attempted to flee the hostile location alongside his fellow actors Shridhar Dubey and Pankaj Sharma. According to Soni’s detailed social media post, the director and his wife pursued the three artists in a car and confronted them in the middle of a public road, where they allegedly began beating Soni openly. When Shridhar Dubey bravely stepped forward to protect his young colleague, the filmmaker reportedly turned on him and assaulted him as well. Sensing immediate danger, the stranded artists immediately contacted the local authorities for urgent protection, prompting the Maihar police department, including senior officials, to step in and safely escort the actors out of the town. Upon safely landing at a railway station in Mumbai, a relieved Satendra Soni recorded a fresh video message expressing his immense gratitude to the Madhya Pradesh Police, former Home Minister Narottam Mishra, and numerous fellow theater artists whose constant phone calls kept them going through the harrowing journey.

This shocking incident has drawn massive attention on digital platforms, prompting the All Indian Cine Workers Association to take strict cognizance of the actor’s plight. The prominent cinema workers body issued a strong public statement urging the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Mohan Yadav, to order a fair and impartial investigation and direct the local police to register a formal FIR against the accused director and producer. The association emphasized that no artist or worker should ever have to face physical intimidation or denial of payments while fulfilling their professional duties. As Satendra Soni, who has previously performed brief roles in major projects like Doctor G, Bawaal, and Raat Akeli Hai, prepares to step into a massive new phase of his career with Farhan Akhtar’s upcoming big-screen project Mirzapur: The Movie, this recent ordeal highlights the critical need for better security and absolute dignity for baseline performers within the Indian entertainment ecosystem.
