The controversy erupted over the movie’s title, which translates colloquially to bribe-taking Brahmin. Critics and several socio-political groups argued that pairing a specific caste identifier with financial corruption was defamatory and deeply offensive. The backlash escalated rapidly, leading to the registration of a First Information Report in Lucknow, a public demand for a ban by Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati, and legal petitions filed in the Delhi High Court.
