Director Nag Ashwin has provided a candid production update regarding the much-anticipated sequel to his 2024 sci-fi blockbuster, Kalki 2898 AD. Speaking at a promotional event for Dulquer Salmaan’s project in Hyderabad, the filmmaker revealed that despite the film officially going on floors, the team has managed to shoot for only about 10 days over the last two years. Addressing inquiries about the timeline, Ashwin humorously recalled his past statements where he mentioned that planets need to align for such a massive multi-starrer to shoot. He joked that the planets had aligned, completed a full orbit, and that the team is now waiting for them to align once more to resume full-fledged filming.
Explaining the primary reason behind the quiet pace, Nag Ashwin clarified that the team is currently waiting for lead star Prabhas to wrap up his existing professional commitments before stepping into an extended schedule. While Prabhas has been busy with upcoming projects like Fauzi and Spirit, the director reassured fans that once the actor’s calendar frees up, the crew will shoot the sequel in one continuous, long stretch. Although major portions featuring the lead star are yet to be filmed, the production has already made initial progress, including a brief leg where legendary actors Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan shot together on set.
The upcoming sequel aims to expand the dystopian mythological universe introduced in the original 2024 hit, which went on to earn over ₹1,000 crore globally. With high expectations surrounding the arc of Bhairava, Ashwatthama, and Supreme Yaskin, fans are eagerly looking forward to seeing how the epic narrative unfolds.
