The historical epic Raja Shivaji, featuring Riteish Deshmukh in the titular role, has officially carved its name in the history books of Marathi and Indian regional cinema by crossing the monumental ₹50 crore mark within its first week at the box office. Released on May 1, 2026, to coincide with the auspicious occasion of Maharashtra Day, the film has shown remarkable consistency and strength across both its Marathi and Hindi versions. On its seventh day, the movie collected approximately ₹3.84 crore net in India, which pushed its total domestic collection to an impressive ₹52.49 crore. This achievement is particularly significant as it makes Raja Shivaji only the fourth Marathi-language film to enter the elite ₹50 crore club, following the footsteps of Sairat, Ved, and Baipan Bhari Deva.

The journey to this milestone began with a thunderous opening day collection of ₹11.35 crore, fueled by immense anticipation and a high-octane surprise cameo by Salman Khan as Jiva Mahala. The momentum carried through the first weekend, with the film earning ₹10.55 crore on Saturday and peaking at ₹12 crore on Sunday. While weekdays usually witness a sharp decline for most big-budget productions, Raja Shivaji held its ground remarkably well by earning ₹5.60 crore on Monday, followed by ₹4.90 crore on Tuesday and ₹4.25 crore on Wednesday. Even with a slight dip on Thursday, the film’s ability to maintain a steady flow of audiences in theaters across Maharashtra and other parts of India has solidified its status as a commercial blockbuster.

Directed and produced by Riteish Deshmukh himself under the Mumbai Film Company banner, the film has been praised for its world-class VFX and the breathtaking cinematography of Santosh Sivan. The project, which was a decade in the making, features a stellar ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt as the formidable Afzal Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Genelia D’Souza, and many other notable actors. Beyond the numbers, the film has resonated deeply with viewers for its authentic portrayal of the early life and Swarajya mission of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Despite facing some minor controversies regarding historical interpretations, the film’s success remains undisputed as it enters its second weekend with a strong chance of aiming for the ₹75 crore mark, proving that well-told historical stories still have a massive pull at the Indian box office.
