The Indian film industry was recently abuzz with a major update concerning a potential cinematic adaptation of the iconic Shiva Trilogy, but the author behind the books has quickly stepped in to clear the air. Reports had begun circulating that Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh, fresh off the massive box-office success of his film Dhurandhar, had officially acquired the rights to The Immortals of Meluha. According to these rumors, the actor intended to produce and star in a grand three-part movie franchise under his own banner, Maa Kasam Films, in a high-profile collaboration with Birla Studios. The speculation even went as far as to suggest that a staggering amount of Rs. 40 crores had been paid for the rights and that the first film was slated to go on floors in 2028. However, Amish Tripathi has now officially dismissed these claims, stating that the rights for the entire trilogy remain exclusively with him and that no deal has been signed with any actor or production house at this stage.
Amish, who is currently in the UK, shared that he woke up to a flood of messages regarding the alleged deal and felt it was necessary to address the misinformation immediately. While the author expressed his profound respect for Ranveer Singh and described himself as a fan of the actor’s work, he clarified that the reports of a formal agreement are “not true.” He emphasized that while there is always interest in bringing the world of Meluha to the big screen, the process is still in its very early stages, and any talk of casting or production schedules is premature until a deal is actually finalized. This clarification has put a temporary halt to the excitement of many fans who believed that Ranveer’s intense screen presence would be the perfect fit for the role of Lord Shiva, the tribal leader who rises to become a legendary savior.
This isn’t the first time that The Immortals of Meluha has faced a complex journey toward a film adaptation. Over the past decade, several legendary filmmakers, including Karan Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, have shown interest in the project, but various creative and logistical challenges have prevented the story from reaching the finish line. Even a previously discussed web series with filmmaker Shekhar Kapur eventually saw the rights revert back to the author. As of now, Ranveer Singh remains busy with other major upcoming projects, including the post-apocalyptic thriller Pralay and a collaboration with director Aditya Dhar scheduled for 2027. While the dream of seeing the Shiva Trilogy on the silver screen continues to linger for millions of readers, it appears the wait for an official announcement regarding the cast and crew will continue for a while longer.
