The Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar 2 has achieved a historic milestone, officially crossing the $50 million (approx. ₹423 crore) mark at the overseas box office. This feat makes it only the seventh Indian film in history to join the elite $50-million international club, solidifying its status as a global blockbuster.
What makes this achievement particularly remarkable is that the film reached this total without a release in the Middle East or China—two of the largest revenue drivers for Indian cinema abroad.
In its record-breaking run, Dhurandhar 2 (directed by Aditya Dhar) has managed to outperform the overseas collections of several recent mega-hits.
While films like Dangal and Secret Superstar sit higher on the list due to massive collections in China, Dhurandhar 2 has relied on a more even spread across Western markets. In the United Kingdom, it recently became the highest-grossing Bollywood film ever, earning £4.388 million, unseating the long-standing record held by Pathaan.
The film’s success comes in the face of significant challenges. Dhurandhar 2 was not released in six major Gulf countries, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait.
Local censorship boards reportedly restricted the film due to its sensitive “anti-Pakistan” themes and its portrayal of an Indian spy operating in Karachi. Trade analysts suggest that had the film been released in the Middle East, it could have easily added another $12 million to $15 million to its total, potentially challenging the overseas records of Baahubali 2 ($63 million) and RRR ($53 million).
Despite the regional ban, the spy thriller has found immense love in North America and Europe:
North America: It is currently the highest-grossing Indian film in the region, with $28.16 million.
Germany: It became the first-ever Indian film to cross the €1 million mark at the German box office.
Worldwide: The film’s total global gross has surged to a staggering ₹1,760 crore, making it the third highest-grossing Indian film of all time, trailing only Dangal and Baahubali 2.
Dhurandhar 2 is a direct sequel to the 2024 hit, featuring an ensemble cast including Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt. The high-octane action and patriotic narrative have clearly resonated with the Indian diaspora, turning the “Dhurandhar” franchise into one of the most powerful IPs in modern Bollywood.
As the film enters its final leg of theatrical screening, it remains to be seen if it has enough momentum to overtake RRR to become the 6th highest-grossing Indian film overseas. Regardless, Ranveer Singh has firmly established himself as a premier global box-office draw. To know
