Veteran lyricist Sameer Anjaan has expressed deep disappointment over the growing trend of recreating iconic Indian songs without showing proper respect to their original creators. Speaking in a recent interview, the legendary songwriter strongly criticized recent Bollywood releases, particularly calling out the film Dhurandhar for misusing classic tracks as background music during heavy action sequences.
Sameer shared that playing timeless melodies while bullets are flying on screen completely strips away the emotional essence and soul of the original tracks, calling the practice a total ruin of good music.
While addressing the ongoing debate surrounding song recreations, Sameer pointed out that while remakes can sometimes introduce classic tracks to younger generations, line boundaries must be respected.
He noted that modern filmmakers often bypass original lyricists and assign new writers to add lines that degrade the literary quality of the original composition. Morally and creatively, he emphasized that producers should not alter classic artistic works without consulting the original creators.
The veteran writer further lamented that major production banners, which once prioritized soulful music, are now focusing heavily on violence and quick trends instead of meaningful lyrics. He highlighted how the shift toward corporate-driven decisions and multi-composer albums has damaged the overall quality of film soundtracks.
According to him, dismissive attitudes toward senior writers, combined with repetitive music trends, have created a serious void in emotional storytelling across mainstream Hindi cinema.
