The “King” of Bollywood may have already found his next massive project. Even as Shah Rukh Khan remains deep in production for his upcoming action-thriller King reports have surfaced on April 22 2026 suggesting that a sequel to his 2023 blockbuster Jawan is officially moving into the next stage of development.
According to industry sources the script for Jawan 2 has been finalized after months of secret discussions between the superstar and director Atlee Kumar. The film is expected to serve as the actor’s immediate follow-up once he wraps up his current commitments.
While rumors of a sequel have circulated since Jawan first crossed the ₹1100 crore mark globally this is the first time reports have indicated a “locked” screenplay.
“A script and idea for Jawan 2 had been in the works for a while” a source revealed to India Today. “A few weeks ago the script was finalized. SRK will begin work on the film after completing King.”
The news comes as a significant update for fans who have been tracking the actor’s post-2023 slate. Since his historic comeback Shah Rukh has been more selective focusing on large-format “event” cinema that appeals to both domestic and international audiences.
One of the defining elements of the original Jawan was the intense face-off between Shah Rukh Khan and Vijay Sethupathi. For the sequel the makers are reportedly looking to replicate that “North-meets-South” energy by casting another major South Indian superstar as the primary antagonist.
While no names have been officially confirmed the production team is said to be looking for a “powerful A-list performer” from the Tamil or Telugu industries to play the villain. The goal is to maintain the pan-Indian appeal that turned the first installment into one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
Currently all eyes are on King directed by Siddharth Anand which is scheduled for a high-profile Christmas 2026 release. That film is already a major talking point as it features the big-screen debut of Suhana Khan alongside Abhishek Bachchan (who plays the villain) and Deepika Padukone.
