Sources close to the production highlight that her role is challenging and will showcase a completely new side of her acting talent. She’ll be playing Sandhya, V. Shantaram’s wife and one of his major inspirations or “muse”.

V. Shantaram’s third wife, Sandhya, was a celebrated actress and a brilliant dancer who starred in many of his classic films, including Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje and Do Aankhen Barah Haath.

Given Tamannaah Bhatia’s own remarkable dancing skills, fans are particularly eager to see her perform Sandhya’s famous, iconic dance sequences in the biopic. Her portrayal of Sandhya, a woman who played a significant part in the filmmaker’s personal and professional journey, is set to be a highlight of the narrative.

The film will trace the journey of V. Shantaram—affectionately called Annasaheb—who rose from a difficult childhood in Kolhapur to become one of the most influential and visionary figures in Indian cinema. Siddhant Chaturvedi is taking on the role of the maestro himself, a challenging part that is reportedly his biggest and most ambitious project yet.

V. Shantaram was a true pioneer. He was a trendsetter who was one of the first Indian filmmakers to cast women in his films, the first to sell the music rights of his movies, and a director who tackled significant social issues like casteism and injustice through classics such as Dr. Kotnis Ki Amar Kahani and Do Aankhen Barah Haath. The biopic promises to be both enlightening about this cinematic history and dramatic in its storytelling.

With Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tamannaah Bhatia now confirmed to play two key real-life figures, Chitrapati V Shantaram is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated biopics in recent memory.
