In what is being hailed as one of the most intriguing casting coups of recent times, versatile actor Vijay Varma is all set to go head-to-head with the legendary Sunny Deol in the upcoming action-thriller, Antony.

While the two actors represent very different schools of cinema, Varma recently shared his immense respect for the veteran superstar, describing him as a far cry from the aggressive “angry young man” persona he often portrays on screen.

The project, directed by Balaji Ganesh and backed by Excel Entertainment in association with A.R. Murugadoss, marks the first time Varma and Deol will share the frame. In Antony, Sunny Deol is expected to deliver the high-octane action he is famous for, while Varma steps into the shoes of a formidable antagonist.

Speaking about the collaboration, Varma expressed his genuine excitement for the role. “I know closely how it feels to get a *dhai kilo ka haath*,” Varma joked in a recent interview, referencing Deol’s iconic dialogue from the 1993 classic Damini.

Despite Deol’s reputation for bone-crunching action and loud roars, Varma was quick to point out the actor’s soft-spoken nature behind the scenes. He labeled Deol the “most gentle and loving icon” in the industry today, noting that the veteran’s humility and sweetness were a pleasant surprise.

“He is the sweetest, most gentle, humble, and very loving icon that we have,” Varma said. “I’m looking forward to kind of playing ball with him on set.”

The film officially went on floors in late February 2026, with shooting currently progressing in Mumbai and Goa. Antony is described as a suspense-driven thriller that aims to showcase Sunny Deol in a full-fledged action avatar, following his massive recent success with Border 2.

For Varma, who has built a reputation for playing complex, nuanced characters in projects like Darlings, Dahaad, and Matka King, facing off against an action legend like Deol provides a new kind of creative challenge.

Sunny Deol has a packed 2026 calendar, with highly anticipated releases including Gabru, Lahore 1947, and his portrayal of Lord Hanuman in Ramayana. Meanwhile, Varma continues to be a favorite for character-driven narratives, further solidifying his position as one of the most compelling actors of his generation.

Antony is slated for a theatrical release in early 2027, promising a unique blend of raw power and psychological intensity. To know
