In a significant escalation of the ongoing controversy surrounding the song “Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke,” a religious body in Uttar Pradesh has issued a fatwa against actor-dancer Nora Fatehi. The decree comes just days after the song, from the upcoming Kannada film KD: The Devil, was banned by the Union Government following widespread public outrage.
Religious Body Cites “Obscenity”
The fatwa was issued by the Muslim Personal Darul Ifta in Aligarh. Shahi Chief Mufti Maulana Chaudhary Ifraheem Hussain stated that the song’s lyrics and visuals are “objectionable” and promote vulgarity, which they claim contradicts moral and religious teachings. The religious body urged artists and filmmakers to be more responsible, suggesting that such content negatively impacts society.
A Government Ban and Legal Heat
The song, which features Nora Fatehi alongside veteran actor Sanjay Dutt, has been under fire since its release earlier this week. Critics and social media users were quick to point out “vulgar” lyrics and sexually suggestive choreography.
The backlash reached the highest levels of government:
Parliamentary Action: Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed in the Lok Sabha that the song has been banned.
National Commission for Women (NCW): The NCW issued summons to Nora Fatehi, Sanjay Dutt, and the lyricist, stating the content appeared to be sexually suggestive and objectifying.
Police Complaints: Legal complaints have been filed in multiple cities, including Mumbai and Delhi, alleging that the track violates public decency laws.
Nora Fatehi Distances Herself
In a detailed video shared on her Instagram, Nora Fatehi expressed her own shock at the final version of the song. She clarified that she filmed the sequence nearly three years ago and was misled about the Hindi lyrics.
“When I shot this song, I relied on the makers to translate it for me. Nothing seemed inappropriate at the time,” Fatehi explained.
She further stated that she does not understand Kannada and only realized how “vulgar” the Hindi adaptation was during the official launch. The actor has since requested fans to stop sharing the video and thanked the public for the backlash, noting that the pressure forced the filmmakers to pull the track from YouTube.
While the Hindi version has been scrubbed from most official platforms, the filmmakers of KD: The Devil are now facing immense pressure to re-evaluate the film’s content before its scheduled release on April 30. To know such latest updates tuned tellyboosters.com Thank you!
