Veteran actor and Padma Bhushan awardee Mithun Chakraborty has expressed strong disappointment after not receiving an official invitation to the Kolkata International Film Festival. The legendary Disco Dancer star spoke out while attending a meeting in Kolkata organized to plan the centenary birth anniversary celebrations of iconic Bengali actor Uttam Kumar. Despite his massive five-decade career and deep roots in Bengali and Hindi cinema, Mithun revealed to reporters that the organizers of the prestigious event completely left him off the guest list. Taking a sharp sarcastic dig at his exclusion from the state film festival, the actor remarked that he is probably considered a very minor artist, which is why the organizers did not deem it necessary to invite him. He further questioned why prominent figures from outside Bengal who have no direct connection to the state cinema are repeatedly invited to the grand event, while veteran stalwarts from the local film industry are sidelined.
Contrasting his treatment at home with international recognition, Mithun Chakraborty shared that he is traveling to Russia for the Moscow Film Festival, where he has been formally invited to attend. He noted the stark irony of being welcomed and honored overseas while being snubbed in his home state of Bengal. Asserting that he is not afraid of anyone and feels no hesitation in voicing his honest thoughts, the actor emphasized that he has earned his place through hard work and will not stay quiet about such unfair treatment. His candid remarks quickly went viral across social media platforms, sparking intense debate among fans and film enthusiasts regarding political affiliations, festival management, and the respect owed to legendary cultural figures in cinema.
