American singer and Grammy Award winner Chris Brown has officially pleaded guilty to affray at Southwark Crown Court in London following an altercation at a nightclub. The court hearing marked a major development in the ongoing legal proceedings stemming from a February 2023 incident at the Tape nightclub located in Mayfair, London. By entering a guilty plea to the public order charge of affray, the artist avoided going to trial on significantly more serious allegations. In return for the plea agreement, the Crown Prosecution Service agreed to drop charges including assault, attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon.
The case dates back to an early morning confrontation where music producer Abraham Diaw was injured inside the crowded venue. Prosecutors alleged that the incident was caught on security cameras and involved an unprovoked assault during which Brown struck the victim on the head using a glass bottle. Brown’s friend and vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, was also charged alongside the singer and subsequently entered a guilty plea to affray as well. Following the incident, both men left the country, but Brown was later arrested in May 2025 at a hotel in Manchester while visiting the United Kingdom for his music tour.
After being granted bail under substantial financial security conditions, Brown was permitted to travel internationally for his music performances while awaiting trial. During Friday’s hearing, the thirty-seven-year-old artist arrived at the London courthouse dressed in a tan suit, gold-rimmed sunglasses, and a baseball cap to submit his plea. Legal representatives confirmed that with the guilty plea accepted by the court, the major criminal charges have been formally dismissed. Brown remains free on bail and is scheduled to be sentenced for the affray conviction later this year in October.
