Actor Divyenndu Sharma has addressed his grand return as the fan-favorite character Munna Bhaiya in the upcoming feature film Mirzapur: The Movie, quipping that killing his character off in the original OTT series was fundamentally a mistake. Speaking at the official trailer launch event of the big-screen adaptation in Mumbai alongside co-stars Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, and Shweta Tripathi, Divyenndu channelled the swagger of his on-screen persona to explain how everyone associated with the project now agrees about his comeback. In his signature humorous style, the actor declared that as a Hindi film hero, he considers himself immortal, reassuring fans that nothing permanent can ever happen to his character on screen.
The dramatic return of Munna Bhaiya comes after his apparent death at the end of the show’s second season, where he was gunned down during a violent confrontation with rival characters Guddu Pandit and Golu Gupta. Although Divyenndu sat out the third season of the web series entirely, the overwhelming public demand from the franchise’s global fanbase pushed the producers and creators to bring him back for the grand theatrical experience. Producer Farhan Akhtar highlighted during the trailer release that fans across the world constantly inquired about the next installment and insisted on seeing the iconic original cast reunited on the large canvas.
Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna, Mirzapur: The Movie reimagines the high-octane crime drama for cinema audiences, featuring original cast members alongside new entrants including Ravi Kishan and Sonal Chauhan. The film revives key characters and alters the timeline to deliver an alternate narrative packed with action, power struggles, and dramatic twists. Scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on September 4, the movie promises to bring the franchise’s signature intensity and fan-favorite dynamics to big screens for the very first time.
