As the high-octane action thriller Dhurandhar: The Revenge continues its record-breaking streak at the box office, director Aditya Dhar has taken a moment to shine a spotlight on one of the key architects of the film’s visual flair: choreographer Vijay Ganguly.

In a heartfelt tribute shared on social media, Dhar praised Ganguly as a “choreographer par excellence,” creditng him for much more than just the viral dance steps currently sweeping the internet. According to the filmmaker, Ganguly’s contribution to the Dhurandhar franchise—which recently crossed the monumental ₹3,000 crore mark globally—stemmed from a deep-rooted storytelling instinct that sets him apart in the industry.

Aditya Dhar, known for his meticulous attention to detail in films like Uri: The Surgical Strike, admitted that his collaboration with Ganguly was a revelation. He noted that Vijay doesn’t simply count beats or match steps; instead, he “feels” the music and translates those emotions into a visual narrative.

“What surprised me most on Dhurandhar was how much he thinks like a director,” Dhar shared. “It made my job easier in ways I didn’t expect. There’s a storyteller in him that goes beyond choreography.”

Dhar speculated that this innate ability to see the “bigger picture” might be part of Ganguly’s DNA. Vijay is the son of the legendary late filmmaker Anil Ganguly, the director behind timeless classics such as Kora Kagaz and Tapasya. This lineage, Dhar suggests, has gifted Vijay with a natural understanding of how a musical sequence should serve the film’s overall plot.

One of the most interesting revelations from Dhar’s note was his initial hesitation regarding the song “Shararat.” The track, which features Ayesha Khan and Krystle D’Souza, has become a massive digital sensation, but it almost didn’t make it into the film in its current form.

Dhar confessed that he was not “fully convinced” about including a traditional lip-sync dance number in a gritty film like Dhurandhar. However, it was Ganguly’s confidence that eventually swayed him.
“I still remember our conversations around ‘Shararat,'” Dhar recalled. “Vijay just smiled and said, ‘Let’s go for it sir, it’ll be fun.’ That one push gave Shashwat [Sachdev] and me the confidence we needed.”

The result is now one of the director’s favorite sequences in the movie. The song’s success has been mirrored by other high-energy tracks like “Fa9la,” featuring Akshaye Khanna, where Ganguly’s signature style blended technical precision with raw emotional energy.

Beyond the creative output, Dhar highlighted Ganguly’s role as a morale booster on the set. Filming a project of Dhurandhar’s scale often involves high-pressure days and logistical hurdles. According to the director, Ganguly remained a source of “pure positive energy,” maintaining a supportive spirit even during the most challenging shoots.

As Dhurandhar: The Revenge maintains its dominance in theaters, the public acknowledgement of the crew’s hard work highlights the collaborative nature of modern Indian blockbusters. For Vijay Ganguly, who is also widely known as the brother of Anupamaa actress Rupali Ganguly, this praise from a filmmaker of Dhar’s caliber cements his status as one of the most sought-after creative minds in the industry today.
