The Cine and TV Artistes Association has found itself in the middle of a major internal controversy as eleven committee members, including eight elected executive leaders, submitted their resignations while making serious allegations against the top leadership. Prominent actors including Puneet Issar, Mukesh Rishi, Hemant Pandey, Sahila Chadha, Vindu Dara Singh, Hetal Parmar, Vikas Verma, and Deepak Parashar stepped down from their official duties, citing a complete breakdown of trust in the governance of the trade union. Supported by CINTAA General Secretary Upasana Singh, the dissenting group submitted detailed formal complaints alleging that CINTAA President Poonam Dhillon and Senior Vice President Padmini Kolhapure have been misusing their official positions and concentrating authority within a small circle.
In their joint resignation letter, the committee members expressed deep concern over what they described as a systematic departure from the core principles of collective decision-making, proper consultation, and constitutional processes. The primary grievance centers around allegations that Poonam Dhillon repeatedly made unilateral decisions without seeking approval from the Executive Committee. According to the complaints, official correspondence was frequently dispatched to government bodies and industry organizations directly through personal email accounts rather than transparent central channels. The members alleged that such actions bypass established administrative protocols, creating an environment devoid of accountability and nullifying the essential practice of shared leadership.
The complaint further raised questions regarding representation before legal, government, and quasi-judicial authorities. Resigning members claimed that Poonam Dhillon and Padmini Kolhapure visited official government departments accompanied by privately engaged attorneys who were presented as official representatives of CINTAA without prior executive committee sanction or consultation. Adding to the grievances, General Secretary Upasana Singh revealed that several arbitrary decisions were being enforced, including the sudden issuance of show-cause notices, unexpected reassignments of member responsibilities, and the cancellation of actor membership cards without adequate prior notice.
Addressing the escalating dispute, CINTAA’s legal counsel clarified that despite rumors circulating about a shutdown, the Executive Committee has not been dissolved because constitutional requirements dictate that over fifty percent of elected members must step down for a dissolution to occur. Meanwhile, President Poonam Dhillon strongly rejected all allegations, describing them as vulgar, offensive, and completely untrue. She maintained that the conflict stems from internal politics over administrative control rather than genuine governance failures, emphasizing that her team has worked tirelessly to raise funds and support needy artists through charity initiatives without deriving any personal benefit. As both sides remain firm on their positions, industry observers continue to monitor how the esteemed artists’ union will resolve its internal rift.
