Poonam Dhillon hits back at CINTAA members allegations after mass resignations

The Cine and TV Artistes Association has hit turbulent waters following a wave of high-profile resignations from its executive committee. Eight elected committee members, including notable actors like Puneet Issar, Mukesh Rishi, Hemant Pandey, Sahila Chadha, Vindu Dara Singh, Hetal Parmar, Vikas Verma, and Deepak Parashar, submitted a joint resignation letter citing a breakdown of confidence in the current leadership. Supported by General Secretary Upasana Singh, the dissenting group accused CINTAA President Poonam Dhillon and Senior Vice President Padmini Kolhapure of running the organization through unilateral decision-making and bypassing established constitutional processes. The allegations claim that power has become overly concentrated in the hands of top leadership, pointing to instances where official correspondence was sent using personal email accounts, decisions were taken without proper executive committee consultations, and legal counsel was engaged without formal approval.
Reacting strongly to the dramatic turn of events, CINTAA President Poonam Dhillon has broken her silence to vehemently deny the accusations, labeling the claims as hurtful, vulgar, and baseless. Addresssing the primary grievances raised by the resigning members, Poonam clarified that neither she nor Padmini Kolhapure has derived any personal gain from their positions, emphasizing that both veteran actors have been utilizing their personal industry relationships solely to rebuild goodwill and generate vital funds for the organization. Responding directly to critics who questioned expenditure on token gifts for performing artistes, Poonam explained that celebrated singers such as Kavita Krishnamurthy, Madhushree, and Nitin Mukesh agreed to perform for a charity initiative entirely free of charge at her personal request. She pointed out that spending a nominal amount on traditional sarees and kurtas as a respectful gesture of gratitude for performers who helped raise one crore rupees for the welfare trust was entirely justified and transparent.
Expanding on the underlying friction within the committee, Poonam expressed deep disappointment over the timing and nature of the revolt, suggesting that internal politics and unfulfilled ambitions regarding high-ranking committee positions played a significant role in fueling the conflict. She highlighted that the Cine Artistes Welfare Trust, originally founded by legendary figures like Dilip Kumar, Amrish Puri, and Amjad Khan, had struggled for decades to generate medical relief and financial support for needy members, a cause her team actively sought to revive. While the resigning members and General Secretary Upasana Singh have called for fresh elections and claimed the executive body stands dissolved, legal advisors associated with the association have noted that CINTAA’s constitution dictates dissolution occurs only if more than fifty percent of the total body steps down, allowing remaining next-in-line candidates to be inducted into vacant slots. Poonam concluded that her decades-long career, hard-earned reputation, and personal integrity remain her highest priorities, expressing sorrow that constructive welfare work was being overshadowed by internal disputes.
