Prakash Raj Speaks Out on Bollywood’s Silence on Cockroach Janta Party Protest: ‘World is Watching’

Veteran actor-activist Prakash Raj has sharply criticized the mainstream Hindi film industry for its continued silence regarding the massive, ongoing student-led demonstrations in New Delhi. While attending the high-profile “Chalo Sansad” march organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), the vocal artist stood alongside thousands of young protesters at Jantar Mantar to demand accountability and immediate educational reforms over recent entrance examination irregularities. During an interactive media session at the protest site, Raj was pointedly asked about the noticeable lack of public support from prominent Bollywood celebrities. Responding with characteristic candour, the actor stated that the entire world is watching who chooses to stand by the common citizens during historic moments of public dissent. He noted that historical retrospectives will inevitably judge contemporary figures, adding that while future generations might forgive those who committed active blunders, they will never truly forgive the influential individuals who chose absolute silence when the nation’s youth needed their voices.

The ongoing demonstration has drawn intense public scrutiny as major public figures slowly align themselves with the core movement, which grew significantly during an extended hunger strike led by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk. While a handful of veteran artists like Shabana Azmi have physically joined the protest lines, and others such as Hrithik Roshan and Vishal Dadlani have offered digital solidarity online, the majority of top-tier film icons have completely avoided the controversy. Prakash Raj expressed his deep wish that established actors with massive societal influence would use their platforms to champion critical youth struggles rather than maintaining safe distances. He further emphasized that he acts solely out of his own personal conscience, drawing direct inspiration from iconic historical figures like Mahatma Gandhi and B.R. Ambedkar who endured severe physical discomfort to safeguard democratic principles. As security forces continue to monitor the massive gatherings moving toward the Parliament house, Raj concluded his statements by asserting that his outspokenness stems from a desire to remain fundamentally true to his principles, choosing public accountability over comfortable, passive silence.
