Businessman and actor Raj Kundra has opened up about the emotional toll of his 2021 arrest in a high-profile pornography case, recalling his dark days inside Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail. Speaking in a candid interview with ABP News, Kundra revealed that hearing media reports about his wife, Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty, allegedly seeking a divorce pushed him to the brink of suicide. He shared that he was already struggling with harsh prison conditions, surviving mainly on Parle-G biscuits and water and losing around 17 to 18 kilograms during his 63-day custody. However, the false news of a impending separation shattered his mental resolve, making him feel like there was no point in living without his family and wife, whom he considers the core of his life.
The overwhelming distress dissipated the following day after he was allowed to speak with Shilpa on the phone. She immediately rubbished the news reports as baseless media chatter, reassuring him of her complete trust and standing firmly by his side. Kundra noted that her unwavering support instantly restored his courage, giving him the strength to face the public scrutiny and legal battles. Shilpa also put together a strong legal team that eventually helped secure his release on bail in September 2021. Retaining his denial of all allegations, Kundra continues to emphasize that his family’s trust was the only thing that saw him through his darkest hours.
