Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has directly addressed the online backlash surrounding the visual effects in director Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming epic film Ramayana, calling the recent rise of self-proclaimed CG critics quite funny. Following the release of the movie’s promotional trailer, a section of social media users quickly expressed disappointment over the computer-generated imagery and digital aesthetics, with many viewers speculating that artificial intelligence was used to create the visuals. In a recent interview with Collider, Ranbir highlighted that judging complex visual effects on a small smartphone display with variable internet connections fails to capture the scale, depth, and effort put into a big-screen cinematic experience. He pointed out that with the widespread arrival of AI technology, a new phenomenon has emerged over the last few years where online audiences feel empowered to critique visual effects instantly without understanding the intricate technical procedures involved.
Defending the dedicated work of the technical team, Ranbir shared how filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari and Oscar-winning producer Namit Malhotra have spent countless hours over several years carefully perfecting every frame, including micro-details like getting the natural color of the sky just right. Producer Namit Malhotra echoed the lead actor’s sentiments by describing much of the online criticism as noise, encouraging audience members, creators, and influencers to assess the high-budget visuals in IMAX 3D or large-format theaters rather than making hasty declarations from mobile screens. Director Nitesh Tiwari also clarified that the VFX work is still actively undergoing finishing touches in post-production, noting that creating complex sequences for a project of this immense scale requires years of labor and that judge-heavy online platforms often amplify tiny imperfections while overlooking massive artistic effort. Mounted on a reported budget of over four thousand crore rupees, the multi-part mythological spectacle features an ensemble star cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, and Sunny Deol, with the first installment slated for a grand theatrical release during Diwali 2026.
