Acclaimed actor Vikrant Massey has candidly spoken out about one of the most challenging phases of his personal and professional life, revealing the severe backlash and privacy breaches he faced following the release of his film The Sabarmati Report. Appearing on Shekhar Suman’s popular chat show Shekhar Tonite, the actor opened up about the heavy emotional and mental toll caused by increasing social media toxicity. The film, which was based on the tragic 2002 Godhra train burning incident, drew intense political debates and hostile reactions online, with critics labelling it as propaganda. Despite maintaining that he remains immensely proud of the project, Vikrant shared that he was subjected to open threats, public harassment, and an extreme invasion of privacy when both his personal WhatsApp number and vehicle registration details were leaked on public platforms.
What made the harrowing experience even more distressing for the actor was the timing of the controversy, as his newborn son was only six months old when the intense hostility began. Vikrant recalled how terrifying it felt as a new father to have his personal details compromised while navigating open threats and relentless online abuse. However, he shared that over time, he developed a stronger perspective, coming to the realization that anonymous online abusers are essentially cowards who should not be allowed to dictate his peace of mind. He emphasized that his primary focus remains taking care of his family and being responsible toward his loved ones, adding that he no longer lets public hostility disrupt his life.
In the same candid conversation, Vikrant also reflected on his meteoric rise to fame following the massive success of 12th Fail, Sector 36, and The Sabarmati Report, confessing that rapid national recognition brought an unexpected layer of anxiety and fear regarding his responsibilities. He clarified that his temporary decision to step back from acting was driven by a deep desire to spend quality time with his growing son and be present for his father’s surgery, rather than a permanent retirement from the screen. Currently earning appreciation for his work in the hit web series The Musafir Cafe, the actor expressed immense gratitude for his craft while acknowledging that learning to navigate global fame alongside a peaceful family life remains a continuous journey.
